To be honest, if the end result of the Beams trading resulted in us getting pick 5 and 25 (passed on to get Greenwood) then I'd be reasonably happy. It means we get a ready made strong bodied midfielder plus a young gun at pick 5.
Having said that, I think it's great that the club is standing firm on its demands, since after all it was the lions who are after Beams, not us wanting to trade him. At the end of the day, if the club is not satisfied with the Lions offer then I'd welcome back Beams for 2015 and hope he comes to his senses and settles back into the team. While I, along with others, was disappointed at his non-appearance at the Copeland, it's obvious he was acting on instructions from his manager. Ultimately, he's a professional footballer and will perform for us again in 2015 if a trade is not made. I'd be happy with that outcome.

So if we don't take this deal, and are stuck with Beams who then stands out for a year and then goes uncontracted to Brisbane in the 2015 draft for nothing, how is that a good outcome for Collingwood?
People keep saying we are in a position of strength in this but thats a bit misleading. We are in a position of strength vis a vis Beams and his contract but not so in relation to Brisbane and what they will offer. Nor are we in a position of strength in regard to Beam's next move if the deal doens't go through. That's up to him. There is a fair amount of PR going on to sugar-coat this mess for the fans as per usual...

You need to take a pill RR. It's day 4 of a 2 week trading period.

So we bend over when Brisbane offers us unders for an established AA, B&F winner, premiership player who we developed from a raw talent to become a star for fear of missing out on anything at all in 12 months time?
That sets a dangerous precedent imo. What happens when Port or Adelaide see we folded like deck chairs at this scenario and think Broomhead, Grundy or Kennedy would go alright at their respective clubs when they're still contracted to us? They'll offer us a shit sandwhich for them, quite rightly too, to break their contract fully expecting us to fold as we did with Dayne Beams.
It sucks to lose Beams and it would suck to lose him for nothing but in this instance the stand the club is taking is correct. If they want a quality player they need to compensate us with some quality in return and pick 5 whilst nice is absolutely no guarantee to give us an adequate return on our Beams investment nor compensate us for the immediate loss his removal from our team will cause. And pick 25 is frankly insulting and saying that's essentially Levi Greenwood is bullshit as we'll get that particular deal done without that "sweetener" anyway.
Anyway it's all semantics as a deal will get done as Beams has burnt too many bridges now to play for us and wont want to sit a year of football out even as a matter of principle (as he seems a bereft of them anyway). I'd look for another club to come into play next week.

He hasn't burnt too many bridges at the club. There is now a very real expectation that he will be here in 2015. He is a footballer first and foremost. He is not a skilled, articulate media performer and i would also suggest he is relatively naive when it comes to dealing with such significant life issues (and he may be getting very poor counsel ?). The club has an experienced staff and will have dealt with this type of issue before.
He may have burnt his bridges on Nick's however ? It will be interesting to see how forgiving the masses are ?

I'd say he's been getting disgraceful counsel from Connors if it was he who advised him to bypass the Copeland Trophy to drink piss in Kew instead. It killed stone dead the groundswell of goodwill most of the club supporters felt towards him for wanting to be with his father because of his illness. The Copeland no-show just revealed that to be another tactic employed by Beams and his management to force the trade.
If he plays on next year to his already established high level and stays on afterwards then he will be quickly forgiven (think ROK and Dustin Martin) by the supporters but I just don't see it happening. He's made it clear he wants out, Brisbane offered him the most lucrative contract but have shot themselves in the foot with their miserliness and stubbornness but another suitor will come on the scene in the next week imo and a deal will get done.

Wasn't this Connors the same fool who shopped Dustin Martin around a year ago and it ended up with him remaining at Ritchmond?
THAT was terrible bloody management.

No that was the pigmy manager to the stars Ralph Carr ( who happens to be the advisor to Trav)

Probably smarter to wait until he finished his current contract and then renegotiate his salary rather than put the club through this whole process if this is all just an elaborate ruse to up his market value, don't you think?
Or are you just speculating like the rest of us, making scenarios up but using big capital letters to try to add a stamp of authenticity to it?

Beams is being badly advised, led astray by this Connors jerk id say. To be pissin on in Kew, not interstate with his dad, says it all for me, the guy has lost me now for all time, could not even say farewell to his former teammates, it was just low act, very low. Stick to our guns, its pick 4, plus Aish, or they can get stuffed, and we talk to Gold Coast, we hold all the aces.
