Other clubs had a chance Aker but because he only wanted to be with the dogs they left him.

That way every other club would risk picking a player who doesn't want to play for them.
100% Agree
this has to happens or might not get him.

Cousins is practically there for the taking. He is a superstar. It's a no-brainer. Then again, so was Tony Lockett......
Yep, if the Herald Sun says we are going after a player, everyone knows it must be true

I'll up your Lockett with a Buckley

but then on the other side of the coin the gold coast side will be coming in a few years so i guess topping up on young players could be a bonus as well
So with our first pick, you want us to take a 2 year player instead of a 10 year player?

Yeah right!!
dont know about you BUT i want pies to win a flag like within the next 3-5 years NOT wait another 32 years for another 1. look at the side we have atm we have the team to do it.
I know this
Cousins is not as valuable as pick 11 in this years draft

Once you have got that worked out, the rest is easy
we have not got enough kids with 'potential' for you?

what we lack is, funnily enough, experience, a match winner in the middle, a hard gut-runner and some pure star quality. Sound like Cousins to you?

Rewind to when he returned in 07. Tell me which kid we get at number 11 in the draft will perform like he did anytime in the next 4-5 yrs.....

and people wonder why we have won nothing for so long, with such a mentality, is it any wonder? If the club thinks along similar lines, we are stuffed.

With the amount of Pies supporters that accept mediocrity, what do you expect?

Oh, of course, we have the kids. It's all good, you have assured me. We clearly don't need anything else.

Just don't bang on that we are the biggest and best club when we have won **** all recently and regularly do very little to change that. (apart from drafting 'potential')..... I suppose you think Carlton recruiting Judd was a mistake too?

You better hope they don't win a flag before us. Of course though, you will re-assure me that we have the kids with 'potential' still....

waste of time you are.

Pied Piper wrote:Lots of assumptions going on here.

People are assuming (a) that Ben Cousins is over his substance abuse issues; (b) that he can satisfy the AFL and interested clubs of the same; (c) that he will be able to resume at the same high level of performance after a year out of the game when he is already past 30; (d) that he could give anything up to four years' more service at the same level, which is statistically almost impossible; (e) that he is what our club most requires in the midfield, when in fact he is an elite outside endurance runner, not a clearance player; (f) that he is the difference between a top eight finish and a premiership.

I'm not saying a player of Ben Cousins' calibre wouldn't make a positive difference to the club, but once again:

EE'S NOT THE MESSIAH
EE'S A VERY NAUGHTY BOY!
This is the most sensible comment on this thread. If we were only one player short of the Premiership then Cousins might be worth using a high pick for, but we are at least three players short (four, if Burns retires) As Pied Piper says we need a clearance player. We need another Ruckman, because much as I love Bear's courage and committment he is not a top AFL ruckman, Wood might be, but his form dropped off alarmingly late in the season and I think we need three top ruckman to be safe.

Most of all, we need a full back capable of stopping big fast forwards, specifically we need a forward capable of beating Fev and at least breaking even with Buddy. Judd was not the reason the Scum beat us twice this year, Fevola was. Brown will one day be capable of beating Fevola or Franklin but he isn't yet and if people think that we are close to a flag next year then we should trade for Rutten. (or Glass, but we wouldn't get him)

a few big stars there .

Anyway, the way it works now is you need to be near the bottom or give up just as much as you receive to get good players from other clubs. No point in whining over not having received a full team of other teams' players over the last decade.

So is it about recruiting players or recruiting player YOU want?

Out of all them, one star player (Clement), one very good player (Licuria), one good player (Rocca). Medhurst too I suppose.....

Now compare to the ones we have missed out on. I'm not even going to bother listing them, speaks for itself and makes that list look rather lame.
