“First Crack” highlighted the poor work rate of WHE, Daicos and Thomas in that last passage of play.
They were walking instead of running towards the centre square and therefore weren’t in the structural grids position that they were required to be in during that play.
Fundamental errors like that are destroying the fantastic work of others.
Good point “slangman” - selfish teams do not win premierships. The Tigers are not that good individually but bust their arses trying to make team mates better - they chase, harass, pressure, fill space, run, spread, block, shepherd, sacrifice so that the team benefits..... all things being equal that’s the difference between contenders and champions and the key to flag success.

Unfortunately, players such as Sier, WHE, Daics, Grundy et al don’t fully appreciate this concept yet and are still looking to enhance ‘self’ over ‘team’....however this may be as a consequence of lack of self confidence, security, or pressure.

If you don’t believe me check it out for yourself - the evidence doesn’ lie.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men...

^ Only McCreery was on the ground less for Collingwood in the round 3 game - and he was the sub who didn't get subbed in: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2 ... 10401.html

To be fair he was off only marginally more than the rest of the midfield who all were in the 70-78% game time so his actually only off around 3-10% more in real terms
Our defenders spent the most time on ground followed by the forwards and the mids who rotated through or spent large chunks of time forward (JDG and Sidey)
His possession ave per minute spent on the ground is on par with the rest of the midfield
Look I get he needs to improve loads more no doubt but his a kid with less than 25 games and he’s barely played more than 3 or 4 games in succession
If there is no marked improvement by seasons end then yeah his time at the club is under threat he needs a big year to secure his future
But the vision which is what the original post was about shows players with far more experience also running slowly 20/30 meters behind there opponent
He wasn’t on his own with his lack of urgency during that final passage of play
Watch it again from the back of the square at our attacking 50 end watch Sidey’s man sprint off him and by the time he reaches the opposite end of the centre square Sidey is 20 meters behind and his man was in position to take a handball from Bailey (who marked the ball) and run in to around 30 out and likely goal
Let’s stop booting a kid when far more experienced players were equally guilty of the same lack of urgency and effort

Sier simply doesn't have the tank needed for a true midfield beast. Until that is developed he will not be truly effective. Shame, because I believe he has the potential.

They do all that busting 'cos they can. Their fitness guys know some secret about fitness and injury management. 16 other clubs are still clueless. (Brisbane have been good on injuries the last couple of years.) Normally secrets in the AFL last about 18 months, not 4 years. And that, plus Dusty, is enough for 3 flags.

As well as Brayden Sier, Jay Rantall and Isaac Chugg have been delisted, with the club committed to re-selecting Chugg in the rookie draft.

Inevitable. Chugg is basically unlucky being injured at the wrong time. Hopefully he gets relisted as a rookie. Rantall had issues with his kicking the moment he arrived at the club. Being an athlete who can run the the fastest time in the 5km time trial doesn’t make you an AFL footballer. And having all the talent in the world which Sier showed at times doesn’t make you an AFL footballer if you’re not prepared to work hard enough to obtain your dreams of becoming an AFL footballer. They’re the lessons to be learned. Hopefully now Sier and Rantall go back and play the lower leagues so they’re not lost to the game. They still possess much more footballing talent than most of the rest of us.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, never seemed to build the fitness to run out a game. Too complacent or just physiology?

Anyway, Pick 32 (our 1st selection) on a totally unproven kid.
Happy to take a gamble with later picks but to use our 1st pick on a kid who had (according to Wikipedia) played just two TAC games?

Any chance of Rantall being rookied as well? Honestly don’t think he’s up to AFL, but we need VFL depth. Unless there’s something else list management identified that we don’t know about.

Sier has had more lives than a cat, time for him to live the life he wants cos he’s never had that mental fire to be an AFL champion. Nice bloke and I wish him well though.

Good luck to Bear. Will remain an unfulfilled talent from my perspective. Hopefully he gets another chance elsewhere, maybe even our VFL squad.
