Nope i wasnt offended. Why would i be ?

Plus as was pointed out to me at lunch. As the cheersquad is "Official" they have access to all Collingwood logos etc. They could even get Emirates to sponsor the top or get Adidas to make it.

After reading this thread a few times I thought I would comment.

I was involved in with the cheersquad committee many years ago and I can totally understand and appreciate the work the committee puts in now. Although I look from a far generally, I still feel passionate about the cheersquad.

I was rapt to see that the cheersquad are making inroads and getting back to the old days of "pure passion". I still think though that they need to make huge steps this year.

The cheersquad needs to get the "Eddie mentality". What I mean by this is get the "us against them mentality" and also "we will be the best cheersquad ever". Make a name of yourself.

A few things need to be done to do this.

1. Stop the winges! Appreciate each other's opinion and passion. Man if you guys put all the passion together, there would be absolutely no stopping you! I am proud to say that our committee worked fantastic together, and I still sit with most of them at the games now! They have become great friends of mine. If you dont think you can do this, because of a certain person, or different people, well maybe thinking about taking a back step for a year, and getting involved another year. The thing that amazes me is the comments come from older ones, come on guys, be leaders!

2. Get a plan happening guys. Look outside the box. Make this year coming, your year. Man who knows how far the team is going to go this season, the sky is the limit. Well, its also the limit for you guys. You dont want to be left behind, or looked upon as a liability. Start putting the ideas together now and work towards fulfilling TOGETHER! (Joffa, we always had sub committees, and senior committees, I know its different because it is run by the club now, but if you want some ideas, let me know.) Be the front runners this year guys.

3. Market yourselves...I like JLC's idea about the tshirts, but I also agree that they might not be worn. Tracky tops is another idea, but caps is the best one I think. Is there a cheersquad page on the club site? Can letters be sent out when the Club does a big mail out? I think you really have to push the family idea this year. Its great having the older ones, but you really need to have some sort of plan to "bring up the younger ones for the years to come" and if you dont start doing that now, well the cheersquad could be in trouble in years to come.

4. Chanting...look that's always been a slight problem, so dont stress too much about it. You just have to be innovative and think of some ideas to involve the crowd ie...the flag..that was great! Pure passion that! Has anyone thought of printing off signs like they have at the tennis/cricket (ie shot, winner, game etc). Well you could print some off, like Rocca, Bucks, Goal, Loser...etc. If the cheersquad handed those out I think that could start a chant. With the committee siting in front, well we did that. The thing that does cause problems is that if you dont make yourself known. This is so important, otherwise the cliqueness does happen. Start talking to your members, gather them in. Because I tell you what the biggest promotion is word by mouth!

You are most definitely on the right track, just redefine some areas though.

Sorry about the long post, just had to get it off my chest.

Here's to a great year

Excellent post mels5

There are some people in the cheer squad with no vision, they have no understanding of the concept of promoting cheer squad to the young ones, many wonderful ideas have been put forward to get involvement from all members but are usaully met with the same response " why would we want to do that"

This mentality has to change, the passion is there, its sarting to resemble the great collingwood cheer squads of the past,

some of the ideas put forward have been

A suggestion like box for fun ideas

Front row on selected matches to be given to the kids

To organise a bus and pick up kiddies from financially handicapped families and give them a day at the footy with the cheer squad.

A welcoming committee to welcome the lonely and the shy.

To arrange interstate supporters to stay at one of our homes when they come to melb so they can be a part of the cheer squad.

To have match day prizes for the kids who cheer the loudest.

To sponsor a collingwood player.

London davo from london was prepared to donate money for a special match day event we had planned ( it would of been sensational )

To have 3 or 4 guest passes for those who wanted to experience the passion of the squad from a week to week basis.

Im pretty pleased to say all above ideas were mine and equally sad to say when them ideas were taken forward they were laughed at.

The man in gold concept was born to promote the cheer squad as was the red flag chant those ideas were not taken forward out of fear of being told once again..'why would you want to do that joffa'

I know of many many people in the cheer squad who want to get involved and they to have some brilliant ideas and 'money' to get things happening....''you sweep a floor before mopping it'.

A good organisation relies on getting everyone involved not just a selected few.

We are getting there and the positives that will come from discussions found in this topic will only benefit those wanting it to succeed.

Look i know i carry on like an imbicile sometimes but my heart is determined in wanting the best for the collingwood cheer squad and if that makes me a nutter, fine i can live with that.

Im quite happy to walk away from the cheer squad when this goal has been achieved i just want to be a part of the greatest collingwood cheer squad ever and the crazy thing is i have made some enemies in wanting the cheer squad to be family like, a cheer squad that reaches its hand out to those seeking desperately to be accepted and to those who just want to do it for collingwood...the bottom line is what we do we do for collingwood and therefor it should be our best
cheers

Love always, Alyssa xoxo

If you wanna learn about cheering then watch Englands Barmy Army. They have all original chants (which can be viewed on the net so people can become familiar with them), have their own website, have tshirts, polos, caps etc etc and they ALWAYS cheer win lose or draw and appear to be a very friendly group Image They tour around the world to follow their team and are accessible to anyone!!!

I think they are the benchmark in terms of cheersquads.

After reading all the posts in here i thought about not making a comment but now i feel like i have too.

There is 3 clicks within the cheer squad and it is not hard to see. You have your group that go to the cricketers and some sit front row, you have the Prez and a couple of her friends but in defence of the prez, she makes herself known to people outside the cheer squad as well as in, then you have the outsiders who either havent made the effort to introduce or feel as if they dont really mix with the clicky groups.
What people seem to forget is that when you are in the Cheer Squad, you are not going to know everybody straight away, it'll take time, possibly a year or 2 to remember everybodies name.
As for suggestions, you always have to make suggestions otherwise things will never improve. Even if they get laughed at, people still need to keep making new suggestions. This years committee didnt like some suggestions but next years might. I was on the committee and i had a fari few suggestions laughed at as well, didnt worry me though as i kept showing up and making more suggestions.
I like the idea of having players names on banners, i tried that years ago and was told that you werent allowed because the players think you are favoring certain players which is bullshit, if that was the case then you wouldnt be allowed to wear magpie jumpers with numbers on them.
I agree that the front row should be rotated to allow everyone to sit there but you cant have kids in there waving floggers as they are heavy, but, front row seats are meant to be for people that have paid the reserved seat fee ($50 i think) on top of thier C.S membership.
Flags should be given to every kid in the cheersqaud, this is something the property stewards should be doing.
I was asked to play in the C.S squad footy match but i wouldnt have been able to even move let alon play footy as the Copeland was the night b4, i tried to play cricket instead and was very unsuccessful with the bat. :-)
It will be interesting to see how the group functions this year, I shall watch and help out if required from my possie in the Laurie Hill Stand. When is the AGM? wouldnt mind coming along to see how many people show up and actually voice thier opinions or are they just going to let there opinions be read instead of heard?

Wrong caas

The cricketers has one cheer squad member attending the get togethers every week and that person is yours truly.

At most on some cricketers get togethers there would be no more than 3 squad members, the cricketers group is not clicky, our message is the same now as it was 4 years ago its a place for all collingwood people to come and have fun and get together celebrating our love for collingwood....as for the kids on front row, we couldnt expect them to wave floggers as i said it would be selected games only and im sure a game of football could survive if for a couple of games per year there would be no floggers
thanks mate

Geez CAAS I never thought I would say this to you..... but credit where its due.... Your post is spot on.....

As for the AGM..... the CFC is on the 17th December.... the c/squad one.... who knows..... you will prolly end up knowing before I do anyway.... Just like the footy match....

Preety poor really when u think about it.... if the organizers didnt have time to let everyone know.... they just shouldve done a post in here or something then it couldve went around by word of mouth..... and everyone wouldve been happy....

But thats in the past lets look forward to a happier c/squad for next year...

BE LOUD...BE PROUD
(September.... we WERE there)

No way Joffa, the floggers are essential. Have the kids in the 3rd row. Plus i'm not sure there are even that many kids anyway, or kids that arent capeable of waving floggers.

Yeah i reckon you're spot on CAAS. And the 'getting to know ppl' thing goes both ways. The committee are often busy, they can;t be just expected to go and start talking to ppl they dont know from a bar of soap. How about the ppl who dont feel welcome go and try making themselves known. It works both ways.

Spot on Joffa the Cricketers (Royal previously) was where all the members of the Unofficial cheersquad and some members of the Outer cheersquad would gather. People from Nicks and FTO have now started coming as do a few cheersquad members. Everyone gets on great and there are no clicks. Thats why i find it amazing when i hear that the cheersquads dont get along as at the Cricketers there is a blend of all three. Cricketers is probably one of the most friendliest places you could go to.

As a committee member i thought it would be part of your role to get to know your members ?? I can understand the part about being busy on game day etc but surely there could be one committee member who could be available for new people to come up and chat to etc.
