I don't normally feed rumors, but fwiw, at the Copeland night a friend told me that Eugene Arocca told him last week that it is known amongst clubs that the Collingwood/Cousins deal is a done deal.

"Nominating" a club is meaningless ... there is no such provision in the draft. You may have a prefered club, but as an uncontracted player you CANNOT say you will only go to a certain club. That is prejudicial the draft and is against the rules.

As an uncontracted player in the preseason draft, all you can do is put a price on your head. The club that drafts you MUST include this amount in the salary cap regardless of what you end up getting paid. You cant say I want $1m a year to scare everyone off, and then renegotiate for $200K (you can but the 1M counts in the cap).

So 10 clubs will pass on Cousins based on the price he nominates????

I dont see it ... Unless the is some skullduggery where he quietly (and against the draft rules) warns clubs that he wont go there.

Most of those 10 clubs are not interested, and I don't think anyone would pick him up if he wanted to go elsewhere. If he nominates Collingwood, it's almost certain he'll get there. Still a long way to go, it will be a bonus if we get him, no big deal if we don't.

At the end of the day, should Ben tell Brisbane he is not interested in going up there because he wants to move to melbourne, why would brisbane still draft him?

I think everyone in footbal circles realises that Ben will only play for a Melbourne club. Hence, i can't see Brisbane getting in his way. If they do, they would effectively be ending his career.

Collingwood may go cold in the media so that the earlier picking clubs don't risk getting him, then end up picking him up ahead of Aint Kilda

Pick 46 Cousins Theory

Sorry to start another Ben Cousins Thread but has the club just made St Kilda's job of picking up Cousins abit harder.

I cant see why Cousins cant and wont be drafted via the National Draft. The AFL have stated that he CAN be drafted via the PSD but doesnt mean he cant nom for the ND. (eg Fraser Gehrig last year)

Saint have used there 2nd rounder on Farren Ray so only have there 1st rounder before our pick 46. There next pick is 47.

Is this the thinking of the recruiting dept by the Rhyce Shaw trade today. This trade went though after the Farren Ray trade.

If other clubs are snooping around Cousins this is our best chance of pick him up via the draft. Cant see us using pick 46 any other way. List numbers wont allow. So pick 45 or 46 will be Ben Cousins our last pick in the draft. Dont need one in the PSD then. Its a Theory.
