Its not that simple but, he cant just go to Collingwood. He has to hope that none of the other clubs before Collingwood's pick decide to take a chance on him.
Hopefully a deal can be brokered with the AFL somehow to only allow Collingwood to draft him if he nominated for the draft but i dont see this happening.

He's in the normal draft isnt he or he is going straight to the PSD?
Lets have a look club by club
West Coast - Obviuosly will not re-recruit him
Melbourne - Will go youth
Fremantle - Will go youth and I doubt Cousins will stay in Perth
Essendon - Will go youth
Pt.Adelaide - May be interested, but more likely to go youth and would be looking at repairing their forward line
Carlton - Would be interested, but probably falls outside their premiership window. More likely to trade for Kerr or Warnock. Need to fix their forward line and defence first.
Brisbane - Need youth through the middle. Already have Black and Power for experience.
Richmond - More likely to go all out for a ruckman.
Adelaide - Need young legs through the middle and need forwards.
Kangaroos - Need to rebuild. Will go youth
Collingwood & Sydney - Both will be interested i reckon.
St.Kilda - Will snap up Cousins if we pass.

I reckon there are at most 2 or 3 teams with a pick before us, who'd be interested (edit: agree with Dave's assessment above). If it was clear that his preferred option was Collingwood, even these teams would probably not pick him. Taking Cousins is a risk, any club taking that risk would want to be sure that he's 100% happy and committed to playing for them.

Yes its a risk....but if you are going to take a risk on anyone, I'd feel comfortable taking it on a Premiership player, Brownlow medallist, captain, Rising Star, hardest gut runner in the game with a point to prove and who is as fresh as ever.

Cousins would be great, but first and foremost we must ensure that we don't lose Didak.

I'd definitely be happy for us to take him. Just saying that, if it was known that his strong preference was for Collingwood, a team would be much less likely to take him before our pick. His happiness and commitment to the club who picks him is extremely important, as most of the risk is to do with off field rather than on field issues.
I think, that if he really wants to come to Collingwood, then he'll be available at pick 11. As you outlined above, most teams above us would not be strongly interested anyway, add to that a clear preference for Collingwood and they're very unlikely to take him. The two other most likely clubs (Saints and Swans) have picks after us.

I dont think its a matter of losing Didak. From all reports he is keen to stay a Magpie...he has done everything right since the suspension, and his preference would be to remain in the black and white.
Its up to us if we want to keep him or not.
Adding Didak and Cousins to the side next year Round 1 would be better than any first round draft pick.
If we snared Cousins, I'd like to keep our first round pick and pick up a gun midfielder.
I dont think we are in the running for Kerr but would like to have a play on Prismall or Harris if available.

Prismall's out for the season with a knee injury though.

I'm glad you clarified the above comment "according to hutchy".
Cousins can enter the PSD with a price tag on his head and perhaps some not to suttle "leaks" to the media of the club he wants to go to. If that club is Collingwood he's ours. As long as he's clean he deserves a fresh start and will be a given a clean slate by the club. Bring him on.

prismall will be protected by the cats and thus won't be going anywhere.

Interestingly.... now that the Lone Ranger has retired, Ben Cousins can wheel around in the #3 (Mainwearing's old number). Something the other clubs can't offer him.
The specualtion is fuelled and the suspense continues...

Can we get back to business? What specifically brings fuelled and the suspense continues to mind?
