I just don't understand their way of thinking at Hawk land. |
its quite easy when you think about it.
skipper was given the boot by the hawks |
It's not easy at all.
Here is the similarity.
Skipper was crap & the dogs knew it.
Hale is crap & the kangas know it.
Again I ask wtf are the hawks thinking?
If you can't recruit a decent ruckman then you may as well stick with what you have now. Hale is a battler at best. |
Hawks ruck division is awful. Its their achilles heel and a rather bad one. david Hale was talked of as an all australian a few years back (defore injuries struck him down). North have enough big men that they dont need to gamble on hale. the hawks ruck division is so shit, its worth them taking a risk on his fitness and the hope that they can get him back to where he once was.
Pies have taken a gamble on players such as Shane Wakelin, Clement, Medhurst, L.Brown and Luke Ball over the past several years and it has yielded great rewards (Jolly wasnt a gamble, he was still very wanted at St. Kilda). Tonnes and tonnes of stories of players who have seemed washed up at one club but have been rejuvenated at another (look at Mumford - he was traded by the cats because he was considered the cats third or fourth ruck option - ohh, how they wish they had that decision to do over again). there are also tonnes of examples of teams trying this tactic and failing. However, given that the Hawks good players are all in their prime now, its worth their gambling to try and lift a position that currently sucks. what did they lose. They hardly gave up anything to get him. At worst, think of it like the anthony Corrie trade. It didnt work out, but we used up pick 94 to get him and he occupied spot 40 on our list for two years on a minimal salary in a team that only needed to use 34 players last year. His spot has now freed up a postion for us to draft another player to the club without upsetting team chemistry. really, the fact that corrie turned out to be exactly what pessimists expected, is no problem at all. Especially when you think that we took two gambles that year (l. Brown and A Corrie). one of them worked better than we ever could have imagined and the other failed. In my mind, these gambles are always worth it so long as you dont have anything better to do with the number 40 spot on your list.
ESPECIALLY when the said gamble has shown great form at one point in his career. |

Bad sign if Hale could barely get a game at North last season. He seems incredibly lazy at times. _________________ ------------
