Post subject: Do the Hawks cheat? | |
|
The Hawks are known for their unsociable football - very aggressive and stretching the rules to the limit (I wish we were more like that).
However on Friday night i noticed two things. They were very aggressive in manning the mark - which is fine (and we do that) but I thought the umps let them get away with a bit and a couple of times I thought they could easily have been penalised.
The other was their tackling around packs and in particular centre bounces. When our blokes were in front position about to get the ball they were scragged - yet the umpire woouldnt pay a free because a moment later our player would get the ball, or try to. However my point is the tackle starts before they get the ball - in my view thats cheating!
Anybody else notice this? BTW I'm not complaining about the umps per se, we had plenty of issues of our making for why we lost. |

noticed a few times the tackle came before the possession, especially on swan.
Was going to start a thread on this as well.
My main concern of hawthorn was the amount of times they slid into the legs of a collingwood player standing over the ball. The best ball players especially mids keep their feet. Pendleberry is one of the best at this and a clear tactic seemed to be a hawthorn player sliding in body first - almost hip and shoulder taking the legs of the player over the ball.
A few times I winced thinking that pendles or another pie player could easily do a knee that way.
looked to be a deliberate tactic. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

There is no such thing as cheating on the field, there is only poor officiating. Pushing the limit is the players job, when required. _________________ Buon Giorno |

Will be interesting to see how they umpire round 2 after their review.
I thought there were many holding the balls let go, especially where players had been turned 390 degrees. |

^ I thought the umpiring was pretty good this round. Didn't seem to have an issue with it, on my end. _________________ Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey, we want some Bayley! |

I actually thought it poor, certainly in the first half of our game. They were inconsistent. One minute they were over officiating paying frees for nothing, then a few seconds later letting stuff go that warranted a free.
They can't always get it rightbut at least they could try to be consistent so fans and players know what is what. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I Personally have more of an issue with umpiring when it decides a game, or could potentially be the difference between a win and a loss... ala Pendles goal against I think Geelong.
Personally I try not to get all up in arms when it comes to umpiring. I listen to some people on the radio and I think what's the point... It's not going to change anything.
I completely understand where you're coming from though and I know what you mean _________________ Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey, we want some Bayley! |

wasnt so much worried about the umpires as the hawkes tactic of sliding into a players legs standing over the ball.
Thought it was dangerous _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Totally T. Rules are there to be pushed to infringement. It's up to Gleischen and his merry band of whistle-happy f*ck-tards to enforce them. Which of course it won't be, let alone acknowledged as having even occured. And from there it will just keep on snow-balling.
They are literally more useless than the ACCC. |

I thought we were found out physically early and taken by surprise at the intensity and speed of the game. That was one of the clear indicators that our preparation is a few weeks behind theirs IMO. That's our fault, not theirs; it's not a game of tag. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Holding the man before possession was gained was the main one I noticed.
However, it's not something I only noticed last week, I've said teams have done that to us since about round 5 last year.
Pendlebury cannot get a clean run at the centre clearance, and if he does get a handpass in his direction, he's always being held PRIOR to actually getting it.
Word to the umpires, possession comes before a tackle! _________________ Black and White - Through and Through - Side by Side - Us against Them |
