Post subject: The State Of Origin must make a comeback!!!!! | |
|
I support the comeback of state of origin. I dont support that idea of we play teams from interstate 6 times a year so theres no need for it.
Lets all reamber not everyone comes from the state they are playing for in the AFL... Lets look at our list theres about 10 interstaters on ours about the same as every interstate list!!!!
I would love to see the best of each state play each other once year and the 44 players who play in the game can be the how the All Austrailan Side is selected!!! _________________ Long Live the mite and power of

I don't support a State of Origin comeback. I'm sorry but I don't want to have Taz, Burns, Lica, Bux, or whoever to go play a state game with the chance they might get injured. In the AFL, club football is what matters. |

State of Origin retired players.
Like the Ted Whitten game of Legends in July....but that should be played tomorrow!.....
Imagine the crowd for a game like that played when there is no AFL games.
Williamstown should have a huge crowd tomorrow/sunday......all melbourne based collingwood supporterrs should be at the game to support our boys. _________________ Kaylene.

So I take it that Joel have never seen that State of Origin in the northern states and how big it gets... I am even thinking that it is bigger that the normal season Grand Final!!! _________________ Long Live the mite and power of

Bartros, how can an All Australian side be selected on the basis of your quote?
One would assume that you would have the 44 players from Vic and SA SoO teams, so think about the players who would miss out.
Buckley, S. Black, Voss & Reiwoldt, to name but a few, would be disappointed if they knew they wouldn't even get a mention if an All Australian team was selected from your view point. _________________ Whale

What are you going on about?
I'm from Victoria and live in Victoria for a starter, so I'm a little unsure on what you are trying to say there.
Can you please explain exactly what you are trying to say. |

Okay, but I said I didn't want SoO because I don't want our star players to go into the game and potentially get injured. Our whole season could be stuffed just because of a state match. It isn't worth it. |

IMO, SoO shouldn't even be considered during the course of a season. What could be considered is to have SoO during the finals series, conprising of players from teams whose season is effectively over.
A club bases its year around winning the last game of the year, and has a huge financial outlay to provide the best team it possibly can. If a high profile player gets injured playing for his club, that's just part and parcel of the game. However, if a player gets seriously injured playing SoO, will the AFL offer some form of compensation for that loss? Most unlikely.
With the time-off clause in the players agreement, players must have an x amount of weeks off after their last game before commencing pre-season. If a SoO type competition is held during the finals, then all available players have the opportunity to continue their season, without as much pressure, and enjoy the last few weeks of the official season.
I'd much prefer it this way than what the NRL do, which is all players selected for their state squad are prevented from playing with their club for the duration of the SoO series. The better performing clubs, who have more players selected, then run the risk of losing a couple of 'cheap' games, which could affect their whole season. _________________ Whale

Love to see it but the ramifications ie-injuries can be devastating to the clubs season. |

Why not have the state of origin say 15 minute quaters and allow 6 people on the bench so as there is less injury risk. |

I think you are saying that Buckley would play for S.A., that is incorrect. He last played for the All Stars team (the team made up from WA, NT, ACT, and QLD). Buckley is originally from NT if I'm not mistaken, and only spent a couple fo years at Port (correct me if I'm wrong).
I heard a few years before the SoO finished that he would be eligible to play for the Vics in five years. I assume that Buckley would be able to play for Victoria these days, having spent so much time in Vic. |
