Post subject: Here we go again! Another day, another drug story... | |
|
4 Collingwood players have apparently admitted to drug use - as soon as I heard they were going to name the club, I just knew it would be us, no shock there. I am sure it is more widespread than just our club though, but I guess other clubs news doesn't sell papers!
(Sorry, I forget what I am allowed to post here, so have posted the link plus article - please delete whatever isn't permitted )

Here's the Herald Sun for you...
Headline: "Collingwood players admit to drug use to AFL medical officer."
Halfway thru: "It is not only Collingwood players who are reporting drug use to the AFL."
And then this toward the end before some mundane quotes from the AFL CEO: "The AFL yesterday would not confirm the the club with the raft of self-reporting players."
I hate this because it just opens it up to speculation of who they were, if anyone at all. Unfair to innocent parties, and who is to say that they were not minor/rookie players, or even still with the club. Robbo just wants to beat Carro to the story and now we'll get her specuation and probably drop a name or two.... by guessing.

Yeah, but it's only us who sells papers. As you say, sports media in Australia is indeed FKD! _________________ "I'm sure people see me as a screaming redhead with a big pair of boobs, but I like to think I've got things to say." Geri Halliwell, former member of the Spice Girls.

Ahhh... we're always up against it. Sick to death of it!
Thank fk it wasnt one of our lads in a brawl at Big Day Out! Although I'm suprised the headline wasn't "AFL player that grew up supporting Collingwood in BDO Brawl". _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

And i'll just say this... there's party drugs and there's performance enhancing drugs.
Both unacceptable, but one is by far worse than the other! _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

I agree - whilst I am anti-drugs, I am still surprised that the players have even allowed this drug testing to happen. I don't ever get drug tested in my workplace (nor indeed while I am on holidays), so why should they? Especially give their lifestyles too, where it seems that a lot of them do partake in illicit drugs (as do possibly a large proportion of people in that age group). It's just asking for trouble. But I guess this is a whole other discussion, one that has been had hundreds of times previously. _________________ "I'm sure people see me as a screaming redhead with a big pair of boobs, but I like to think I've got things to say." When Pert first came out of no where and mentioned this, I do admit I feared the worst.
I'm still fearing the worst.
Would Pert really come out and call for a drugs conference if he didn't think there was an issue at his own club? or would you do it trying to jump on the front foot, just because?
That's where I'm torn as to what to believe.
However the whole drugs policy is a farce. So.much for 'worlds best practice'. |

It was obvious at the time it was a preemptive strike, well obvious to those who at least have 1.5 eyes. |

^ Thought much of the same to be totally honest. Just trying to find a reason not to think that.
However, the next few weeks are going to be interesting. _________________ Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey, we want some Bayley! |

At the end of the day its not a massive issue, players from all clubs dabble in it. Sounds like our boys knew they were going to get tested and came clean.
This will be a positive in the long run. |

My exact thoughts Brenny! The season is beginning to turn upside down and it hasn't started yet! |
