I think it'd be much kinder to them to do that than to just make life easy for them with bucketloads of cash. And while I concede that money can dictate, say, which school you can send your kids to, I'm dedicated to fighting against privileges like that.
Franklin has more than enough to raise a family now, and would continue to work to support them after he's retired from football. Isn't that enough? |
It's easy to say these sort of things before you have kids David. My perspective has changed a lot since I had my first. Not sure why you are against parents wanting their children to get the best quality education possible. Having experienced both the public and private systems, I can vouch that the quality of the two systems are light years apart. It will cost my half my yearly salary to send my son to a private school, and if I can somehow pull it off, I will, because I want the best for my child.
Not sure where you're coming from with the inheritance angle either. Are you against inheritance or against trust funds? I will get an inheritance once my parents die, (hopefully not for a long time), but in the meantime they will enjoy their retirement with their hard earned, and when they do pass my financial burden will be eased. |
I'd probably prefer private over public too, but I don't agree with a system in which kids whose parents have money get a better education. My thoughts on inheritance are based on a similar principle (a means of conserving old wealth) — but I fear we've strayed a little from the topic at hand! _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

I've knocked back more money to leave before, but not double and not for a guaranteed 6 years.
A key difference between an athlete and a white collar worker is that the white collar workers earning capacity increases with age and experience and at 26 you have another 40 years in the workforce.
An athlete at 26 has basically 6 years left if they're lucky with injuries. Even if you don't like the new place that much, you do it for 6 years and retire and get to choose what you do for work without having to worry about money for the next 30+ years.
He'd have to be nuts to knock it back. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Oi, where are ya Frohickey?
You join us and swamp heaps of threads with your nonsense, but when one is about Buddy bailing on the Dawks you're nowhere to be seen..
Are you in a corner crying over the thought of a Buddy-less team?
Looks like another 22 years of maybe only one flukey flag to look forward to again. |

Difference between normal jobs and Buddy's is tomorrow there is a real chance that he could be crippled and never be able to play football again.
Yes some jobs are more dangerous than others and generally they get paid more. _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

The dorks will some how get one of their best plus a draft pick and salary cap relief. How else do they end up with the likes of Gibson and Gunston whilst giving us a lame duck. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Is that $9m purely salary cap or does it include AFL marketing cash? If not imagine what the true deal would look like? Either way, hasta la vista, Buddy! _________________ RED "BABY" CAVANAUGH: Didn't hear what the bet was.

Yep, it's greed, and its pretty easy to understand too. |
Agreed, Nick. Although, it's not greed, it's smart.

Lol, yes. Definitely not long for this world, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts! And no, all our customers are old (we have arty films).
