^^I'm not sure. We have a history of taking the more raw players. Scharenberg's meant to be ready made, and there are some suggestions he's dominated at the underage levels because his body is so well developed. He doesn't have the same room for development that the much more raw Bontempelli does. We could have the thought that Scharenberg's a solid pick, but Bontempelli has the potential to be a superstar down the road. _________________ Well done boys! |

Agree Inky, although when I named our best 22, the half backline did look weak. I think Bontompelli has huge upside as his height will differentiate and he almost doesn't make this draft at his age, meaning he likely has more developmental upside.
I actually think Scharenberg would suit St Kilda, where Goddard has departed, and where his leadership would be valued. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

If Scharenberg and Bontempelli were both there at 6 I'd suggest Bontempelli would have greater chance of lasting till pick 10.
If not I'm still leaning towards Lennon at pick 10 ahead of Salem and Freeman.
Just think we could do with a classy third tall forward to provide us with more scoring power with the side benefit of him rotating through the centre as a big bodied mid in the future.
Our list needs some height in the mid range IMO with the likes of Adams, Thomas, Williams, Broomhead, Dwyer, Sinclair, Ramsay, Kennedy, Martin all being 6 foot and under. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

^^I agree, we definitely could. I'm not sure I could name a player on our list fit for the role, so I'd also be happy for Lennon to be taken.
It's a toss up between that and adding a line-breaking genuine mid, as this is also something we lack. O'Brien's there, though only as an outside winger, and we hope for Kennedy to come through this year, the cupboard's a bit bare after that. I'd slightly lean towards Salem or Freeman, as I think this role is a bit more important than a medium forward, but I'd be happy with either type.
If we did select Bontompelli/Scharenberg and Salem. Either of the former could play a forward role in the early part of their career, though half back may be more likely. I'm really intrigued by Bontempelli. Listed as 194cm (still not sure if this correct as other sites have him as 191 or 192) and a supposed genuine midfielder. I just don't think we've seen one before. Even Kouta was only 191cm. Pavlich and Franklin have both played in the midfield, but neither would be considered a midfielder. _________________ Well done boys! |

I like Salem at 10 too now. Play him off half back with his precise kicking. Just like Luke Hodge, who he compares himself too.
Bontempelli at 6. Lots of upside. Good kick, reasonable run and height for differentiation. Can move forward at that height when resting. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

There are so many options we could end up with and a lot of it out of our control.
The things I do know is having picks 6 & 10 is genius and if we end up with two of any of the names discussed we are the definite winners of the draft. |

I'd give your right testicle to know what Hines thoughts are about all these names we are discussing and get a sneek peak of his ranking from 1 to 10 prior to draft day. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

This has us taking Salem at 6 implying he is the reason we were so keen to upgrade pick 11 with Bontempelli taken at 10.
Make of that what you will.
Still it's just an educated guess and it's hard to see us passing up Scharenberg if he's still there or risk Bontempelli not lasting till 10.
If it occurred then Hine must really rate Salem. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Can't see us upgrading to 6 to get Salem. Much more likely that Hine hopes to pick up a slider like Aish or Scharenberg. Especially since there is every chance that Salem would still be available at 10 anyway. |
