Goods doesn't know what a friend is. No strength of character. I would like to know what his true views are on reconciliation and what he thinks the non indigenous population of Australia owe his race.
For me an ideal situations is where we can all stand side by side on equal footing with the past looked upon as a past and all concerned working in a cooperative and positive manner for a beneficial outcome for all.
I would suspect my vision differs from Goodes's.
As for Australian of the Year - He doesn't get my vote.
I have always perceived him as an individual who thought that he was entitled to an unearned advantage. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

It is unfortunate, I do not believe Ed is a racist and I think that is the general view and that he simply mate a stupid error in trying to be funny.
He was actually trying to pot the AFL with the (poor) joke and it just came out all wrong. Having had the incident where he was called a gorilla play out in the media, Ed was trying to say something along the lines of it would now be typical of the AFL to then go ahead and use him to promote the play King Kong - stupid, passively racist and poorly considered and a stupid mistake but definitely not intentionally racist.
He was devastated and humbly apologized and it is a shame it has cost him a friendship, i do hope Goodes finds it in his heart to forgive Ed at some point. |

Not sure about Goodes the seeker of racial equality.
Do know about Goodes the afl player who belts unsuspecting opponents from behind and gets away with it.
Like Judd, Just cause he was a great player of the game doesn't give him any more credibility than anyone else when it comes to character. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Yes Dave, that's what I'm saying.
Great players do not equal credibility in character !!! _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

In the words of Pauline Hanson "please explain?"
I thought he was an innocent Australian jogger senselessly killed by two young African Americans in a seemingly random & alleged racist shooting? (I don't know all the details)
He certainly would find it difficult to travel & perform the roles & functions expected of "Australian of the Year". _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

We seem to have reached the point in our society where we judge people by their words, however inadvertent, rather than their actions, however intentional. It is a kind of decadence. McGuire has done much for aboriginal footballers. That is what counts. The rest is posturing. _________________ Two more flags before I die!

Yes, again my point.
Luke ball, Lenny Hayes, Pendles, Simon Black,Rob Harvey all champion players and great characters
You also have blokes like toovey, who are great in their role, very good players but universally loved by the club as a great character.
Footy ability good or bad is irrelevant. What you do on the field though regardless if stats can show your character.
Goodes and Judd have demonstrated this more than once. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Disappointing that Goodes feels that way, but that's his call.
As far as the media goes, I highly doubt that he rang up the journo and asked for a press conference, far more likely the journo decided to ask him, nearly 12 months down the track how he was feeling and he was dumb enough to answer honestly.
At the end of the day, if he's happy to burn a friendship on those grounds then that's his call regardless of what anyone else may think. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The private life between Goodes and Eddie is none of our business. I've lost alot of respect for Goodes over this.
Reason being: If you're no longer friends, don't play it out in the media. Done.
This isn't something we all needed to know.
The simple answer should have been, that was 12 months ago, we have all moved on and that's it.
I'd be guessing for the media to ask it, they must have received wind from somewhere. |

I wouldn't go that far, he would not think that way,its just that as a person he seems to have a chip on his shoulder, has a pretty big ego and self importance, and seems extremely sensitive at times. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.
