For those of you who may not be all that interested in today's Sunday twilight fixture between West Coast and the Giants on this Collingwood-less weekend, I've come across something on YouTube that may be of interest, especially to those with a bent for nostalgia, particularly that of the black and white kind.

At the link below, you'll find a copy of an original VHS recording of the actual Channel 7 broadcast of the round 9 match from 1991 between Adelaide and Collingwood from Football Park.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_7V6aAPQI0

(And here also is a link to an article Glenn MacFarlane wrote about the game in retrospect in 2012... http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2012-05-23/the-first-in-adelaide)

This was only the second time the Crows and the Magpies had crossed swords, and the first time ever at Football Park. The Pies took the honours in the first ever encounter the previous year, by a whopping 123 points if you don't mind!

And just for some more fun, here's a link to a copy of the return encounter at Victoria Park from round 24 of 1992 as well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ETkfSx6BGY

I'd love to hear some of the memories from people around here who may have been at either of these matches. (Dyso?)

Be advised, these YouTube videos are big, given that they are the whole matches and will take a nice chunk out of your data allowance. A rough estimate of the first game comes in at about 2 GB! Shocked Proceed at your own discretion.

Anyway, hope you all enjoy. Happy viewing!

Bruce was a lot less sexual with his commentary 22 years ago.

I was at the Vic Park match when we slaughtered them. I sat behind the goals in the Sherrin Stand. There was a bunch of Crows supporters sitting in the forward pocket just near me in the Rush Stand. There was a helluva lot of stirring going on that day which nearly got out of hand. The Crows fans were pretty quiet by halftime let me tell you.

Tell ya what Batty, these Collingwood-less weekends do tend to shit me up somewhat.

Firstly, i just dug up this nugget below from 2012, and i know we've done this 1991 game in another thread somewhere too:

Just a fantastic day.

The Fidge in sledge mode! Yeww!!
Millane's only ever game vs the Cows.
Think David Marshall played a solid game on him too

Sitting in the Sherrin stand with Rudeboy and crew, i think i recall also hearing on our walkman prior to this game commencing, that Fenech had been robbed against Nelson in the June 1991 title fight. Which he was.
Anyhoo, we totally pantsed the Cows, after flogging the Swans the week prior; stats below:

http://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1991/010419910629.html

I recall Cornes lamenting in his post-mortem press conference how Russell and Francis had "slipped the net" of local SA players to recruit.

The rnd.9 1992 game at Moron Park i recall watching live on TV on the night, and thinking it was a solid win:

http://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1992/010419920517.html

The round 24 game at Vic Park was a total grind, Cows had dismantled Geelong the previous week, and was actually a farce that they hadn't made the final six, considering the form they had found. But what sticks in my mind, was that if memory serves correctly, Rocca and McMullin kicked 2 goals each in the 1st quarter, our only goal scorers, YET didn't kick another between them for the rest of the game. Didn't McCartney kick 3 final quarter goals that day? Rocca and McMullin were the only 2 players ommitted for the following weeks final against the rapists at Waverley, when we couldn't hit the scoreboard. Another Matthews fail.
But that was our 1992 season, grind out gutsy wins without Millane, and only Carlton beat us by more than five goals that year:

^1992, the one that got away! Crying or Very sad
West Coast a formidable side that year, especially at home, but we matched up extremely well against them, they certainly didn't wanna face us in September.
Stupid bloody final 6 system.......
Equal top, third on percentage, then play an Elimination final that if you win gives a double chance the following week. I'm still scratching my head at that.

Were either of the 2 crows games at Vic Park in 91 or 92, the infamous Micky McGuane "jab in the groin" game??

No that was 1994 mate; coming up to 20 years to the day too.

Let me know if it doesn't turn up on youtube, so i can dig the VHS tape out of the morgue, and get the clip transferred to .mpg4 at some stage this year!

^Ahh, 94.
I remember everyone being pretty relaxed about it all, there were even a fair few giggles from Collingwood supporters when he kept dribbling the ball along the ground.

My memory was that we pantsed 'em that day - but just looking at your stats link Dyso, not exactly the case........

(Sorry to MagpieBat for taking the focus off the 91 & 92 games that the thread was actually about........)

Actually KM, i wasn't there that day; as i had started playing in the VAFA reserves around that time, before my body gave out. But i was listening to the radio broadcast, and recall everybody freaking out saying like WTF is McGuane doing shanking three kicks along the ground! Very Happy
