Out of the 22 collingwood players who took to the field on Friday night we had 9 players (Williams, Frost, Witts, Blair, Keefe, Mccaffer, Toovey, Harry and Maxwell ) who were drafted as rookies. 4 players who were drafted over pick 60 ( Langdon, Seedsman, Thomas and Goldsack ). 1 player who was a top 10 pick ( Pendles). 4 Players who were taken between pick 10 and 46 ( Fasolo, Beams, Sidebottom and Cloke). 3 players traded from other teams ( Young, Adams and White) and 1 player who was the steak knives for Clarke in Elliot.
In percentage terms (rounding off the percentage values)
Rookies – 41%
Over 60 – 18%
Top 10 – 5%
Between 10 and 46 – 18%
Other sides – 14%
Steak knives – 5%
If you add up rookies, bottom national draft picks and the steak knives you get a staggering 64% of the players being the bottom dwellers in terms of the draft and yet we thrashed St Kilda by 86 points.
Well done to the recruiters and development staff

Even at the time, I remember hearing that Collingwood loved Elliot and that it was Clarke who was actually the "steak knives".

^Yes, nice work by Hine and co.

Swan was another bargain pick.

Still, I'd like to see Freeman, Scharenberg, Grundy, Broomhead, Kennedy and Reid kick on to add some polish and class as our top 20 picks.

The scary thing for opposition sides is that our two top 10 picks in Scharenberg and Freeman have been injured all year, Broomhead is yet to debut and Kennedy has started the majority of his senior games as the substitute.

Add in a first rounder in Adams and a kid called Moore and things are looking alright going forward.
