Our backline is too inexperienced not to have him.
Come up against the Hawks with that backline they will get killed. Not sure who we take out but we need him as a leader down back for the big games and for him to be the third man up

Fasolo out for Maxwell, and Lumumba back up onto a wing.

Don't think we'll see Maxy for another few weeks.

Weird game. For nearly 3 qtrs it felt like we were about 6 goals up but everytime I looked at the scoreboard there was only 2 or 3 in it. Pretty solid win in the end in trying circumstances. Defence was great, especially Frosty, I don't think I've seen anyone spoil their opponent so comprehensively. He was amazing
And Young comfortably outplayed Seedsman yesterday. Seeds is either not fit enough or not working hard enough, did some great things but not enough of them.

The pass that Young hit straight to the full back? It was an excellent pass, low and hard. When he started his kicking motion Trav was even with his defender, it was only after the kick was on its way that Dunn had worked his way in front.

He executed the exact same pass later on to, I think Grundy, and hit his man perfectly.
Young would normally bomb it in to the opposing backman instead he tried to hit someone up first time ever,in my opinion Cloke pulled out of the lead as he thought it was going over his head as per normal h],Dunn was too far in front of Cloke for him to work in front and the kick to Grundy have a look at the replay he kicked it to the advantage of the melbourne player it was Grundy who made the kick look better than it was.

Frost,Keeffe,Toovey,Williams,Langdon,Young,Seedsman,Goldsack and O'Brien.

Our side is stacked with defensive options but is light on for forward options with some creative ability and goal kicking nous.

It's our major weakness.

For mine if Fas was to be dropped I'd rather he be replaced by Broomhead, Kennedy or Karnezis when fit.

Agreed Faz had a shitty day but he is the one small bloke with the forward class we lack, we really miss a medhurst and Leon type

More like Hymie than Hermie with that tripe. BOG by a mile.

Yep was BOG today and did his best work when the heat was on which has been a criticism of him in the past, that he's a front runner. However, Hermie is right with one thing, his handball is poor, which is probably why he kicks much more often

so why was Jack Watts on him if he was so good they may have put a better player on him . those two blokes wouldn't have got a bruise-if was as good as you say he is he would still be at the hawks but no good by foot

Not a crumber but Ben Reid is back soon and will really strengthen our forward line when he comes back. He's a gun and could potentially turn a so so forward line into a very potent one. Cloke, and White are automatically more dangerous with Ben to cover for the opposition and then we'll hopefully see Blair, Elliott and Fas become more dangerous on the periphery with 3 good big forwards to work under and with.

The scope for improvement is huge.

T'was nice of Melbourne to let us work on the defensive set ups in match simulated conditions. The 4 points, no injuries, getting fitness into some of our blokes and covering the betting line were simply cherries on the cake.

And just a few thoughts.
Swanny and Beams didn't extend themselves and only lifted when it was needed. Pendles was outstanding in the first half.
Cloke is on struggle street and we're about to run out of excuses trying to justify his 2014 form.
Blair, Witts and Dwyer are our weakest links and should be phased out of the side at the business end.
Take away JT's 2 oof's and he had a decent game.
Keeffe continues to make those who rubbished him after the Adelaide game stupid.
Frosty and Langers continue to raise the bar.
Thought H played his best game of the year.
Fas had a shocker, seems to be one of was those players relying on confidence.
Grundy will be a genuine star of the comp once he gets a much better tank. Ditto Seeds.
Dasher is getting into the grove and was an awesome get for the Club.

Carn the Maggies.

Correct weight except on Blair. He was one of our best forwards, as he is most weeks. Good at ground level and a damn good pair of hands if he can get high enough to get his hands on it !

Thank you Mugwump. Blair was one of our best forwards. His usual in and under style is great and no one made mention of it, not even the commentators at the time, when I believe in the last quarter he out marked Howe in a one on one contest. I haven' t seen the replay yet but I' m sure it was Howe. Howe even looked surprised. Reminded me of a few year's back when Peter Bell out marked Fraser.

It is amazing how many times Blair has presented himself as our lead up forward this year.

Can't agree fellas as I actually think he is in our worst forwards and in fact worst players most weeks. His tackles don't stick or hurt like Goldsack's, his kicking is wonky and he does not impact the scoreboard often enough.
Looking ahead we'll need to accommodate the likes of Fas and Patty in the forward line to make it very potent and Blair should be the first to go.

I often think that Blair will have trouble holding his spot but that was one of his better games & for mine he clearly stood out 2 days ago.

A very good win. The kind of win a premiership contender has.

They did what Roos' teams do: clog it up and prevent any fast scoring. And as always, especially against us, the fatal flaw is not being able to score enough themselves. We did a great job of putting some pressure on their little leadup passes and then making sure they had nowhere to go when they tried to go forward. End result: only 3 Melbourne goals.

In the end what we had was a percentage booster: 218%. Which is more like a 60-70 point margin.

Young was very good today. Best on field and his best game for the club. Brilliant run and some great foot skills.

Seedsman could have got more of the ball, but some of the runs he did provide were electric.

Cloke worked his way into the game and had a decent one by the end.

Grundy was excellent in the first half. Faded a bit but was far better than Witts who was ordinary.

Thomas acquitted himself better than Adams did last week after a shocking first quarter where he did not touch the ball. Finished with 20 touches. Only 1 clearance though, and I think the last two weeks have shown that Ball is still our number 1 primary extractor.

This! Excellent post An_Inkling, I agree with all your points.

Entertainment wise, it wasn't a great game to watch but the four points are crucial in the scheme of things especially with us pushing for the top 4! We've done well to put on a professional performance on Monday.

Young, Frost, Keefe and Macafffer were all standouts for me. Young was everywhere and his ball use was first class, Frost and Keefe totally controlled the defence as the Dees forwards struggled to nullify them and Macaffer was huge on tagging Dom Tyson out of the match who had been a player starring in previous Melbourne games.

Overall, an excellent win despite the standard of footy we witnessed on Monday.
