http://www.news.com.au/world/middle-east/jordan-continues-their-revenge-on-isis-carrying-out-airstrikes-against-the-terror-group/story-fnh81ifq-1227209129504
Quote: | JORDANIAN fighter jets have carried out new air strikes against Islamic State, the military said overnight, a day after the country’s king vowed to wage a “harsh” war against Islamic State militants who control parts of neighboring Syria and Iraq.
Earlier, the Jordanian air force carried out air strikes against targets in Mosul, killing 55 including a top IS commander known as the ‘Prince of Nineveh’, Iraqi media reported as well as the International Business Times.
The airstrikes are in retaliation for the killing of captured Jordanian pilot, Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh, who was burned alive in a cage by the terror group.
The army statement did not say which country was targeted in the latest strikes but it is believed at least 30 Jordanian fighter jets participated in the strikes.
“The plan ... is to go after (ISIS) targets in order to degrade them and defeat them,” CNN reports spokesman Mohammed al-Momani said.
“We want to make sure that they will pay for the crime they did and the atrocity they did to our pilot.” |

and so it begins.
http://anonhq.com/anonymous-hacktivists-strike-blow-isis/
Quote: | Anonymous has just struck a massive blow against ISIS recruiting efforts. Hacktivists recently took control of dozens of Twitter and Facebook accounts that had been openly used by ISIS to expand their influence and recruit new members.
The above video explains the attack was coordinated by “Muslims, Christians, Jews” alike. They are “hackers, crackers, Hacktivist, phishers, agents, spies, or just the guy next door… students, administrators, workers, clerks, unemployed, rich, poor.” They are also “young, or old, gay or straight… from all races, countries, religions, and ethnicity. United as one, divided by zero.”
An important point made by the video is that “the terrorists that are calling themselves [the] Islamic State (ISIS) are not Muslims.” Anonymous further directs a threat to ISIS itself:
We will hunt you, take down your sites, accounts, emails, and expose you…
From now on, no safe place for you online…
You will be treated like a virus, and we are the cure…
We own the internet…
We are Anonymous; we are Legion; we do not forgive, we do not forget, Expect us.

I suppose it doesn't hurt to cause them a little bit of frustration and inconvenience, but let's get a bit of perspective: booting a few people off Twitter is hardly a massive blow against ISIS. This is hardly a primary source of communication for fighters in Syria and Iraq, or potential recruits from Western Sydney for that matter.
If they want to increase their 'hit' count, perhaps these bovver boys could get a job as Facebook moderators and really change the world, one breastfeeding photo at a time. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Social media is a big platform for ISIS and they've used it very effectively so far for propaganda and recruiting purposes so I wouldn't underestimate this but in saying that you're right that in the bigger scheme of things this isn't going to defeat ISIS by any means in Syria and Iraq.
Also reading the papers from both Western and Arab news sources it's been said that ISIS also uses internet forums to spread their messages of propaganda so they're not just exclusive to Twitter and Facebook. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Taking down their twitters would be like shooting down a plane carrying leaflets in WW2. It disrupts their propaganda, which is not going to have immediate, battlefield impacts but will help in the long term if they can be kept relatively quiet on the net. |

OK so if this fella is the head honcho of a major religion looking to expand it's base in our great Country why the effing hell does he need an interpreter?
https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/26289591/australia-s-grand-mufti-slams-government-ban/
Quote: | The Federal Government should drop its plans to ban the radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir, according to the spiritual leader of Muslims in Australia.
The Grand Mufti has also slammed Australia's involvement in Syria and support for Israel saying it will lead to more young Muslims joining Islamic State.
The Federal Government should drop its plans to ban the radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir, according to the spiritual leader of Muslims in Australia.
“I don't agree, it's the wrong decision to legislate such a thing. I think it's a political mistake,” said Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed.
Dr Ibrahim is the Grand Mufti Australia, the spiritual leader of half a million Muslims living here in Australia.
Speaking through an interpreter, Dr Ibrahim told 7News just because Hizb ut-Tahrir is banned overseas, including in the United Kingdom, we should not ban the group here.
“Hizb ut-Tahrir is not against freedom of speech, he, they are actually pro-freedom of speech and they are actually practising this policy those who are against freedom of speech are the ones who are thinking to ban HBT from expressing their thoughts,” Dr Ibrahim said. |

Perhaps he wanted to make sure he was expressing himself clearly. 100% fluency in English is not necessarily a prerequisite for such a position, I would have thought, particularly when most of his usual audience would be multilingual.
As for what he's saying, I agree. Extremely hypocritical that this government which proclaims itself to be so supportive of freedom of speech (anyone remember "the right to be a bigot"?) is planning to restrict that of an entire religious sub-sect. I don't particularly like HBT either, but if this plan is serious then it is an extraordinarily illiberal one. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

I agree David but HBT aren't pro-free speech.
If they had any kind of power to change laws regarding freedom of speech or trample on our human rights they'd do so in a heartbeat. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
