North knew they could kick to any one on one contest with Nathan Brown because he is useless, and will not provide a real competition. He seems to be more concerned with his appearance of trying than actually doing anything to stop his opponent. He is slow and dumb and he has no idea how to be part of an attacking defence. Jonathan Marsh has played well in the VFL and in that he is fast and seems to be intelligent and so he is a mile in front of Brown.
What photographs does Brown have that gets him a place on the Leadership Group, because it certainly isn't ability or effort because he has neither. He is not going to be part of a winning Grand Final team again so let's sell him that still believes they need a big blob in the backline. |

Nah - this egg is burned on. You'll probably need a steel-wool scourer. |

For:
strong, smart, good hands, good footy brain, plenty of guts, good leader, can stop some forwards in their tracks.
Against:
very slow off the mark, can't jump, not a great kick, gets cut to ribbons by forwards who can lead fast and/or leap high, not getting any younger.
Summary: fairly good player. Wouldn't get a game at (say) Geelong or Essendon (where they have two quality tall defenders), would walk into (say) Carlton where they don't have anyone worth mentioning. Given the weakness of our list in the KPP department, he's a lock for 2015, but will have to fight for his place next year if players like Moore and Reid come in, especially given that young Frost is faster, more mobile, plays taller, and will only gain strength and improve. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Did something important just when it was needed. He's strong as an on, just needs some back up. We desperately need Ried back. Well done Browney, this season a big improvement with consistency _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

To be honest I felt sorry for Brown and Frost in the 1st half. There wasn't enough midfield pressure and North with there good skills hit up there forwards to easily. There were a couple of times I thought he should have got a fist in on a couple of contested marks by Petrie but OP is a bit harsh. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

Yeah all our tall defenders were getting caned early today. And while Petrie did only have one goal on Brown to 3/4 time or something, that was more due to Petrie's kicking than Brown's skill.
But I reckon Nate's played some really good footy and at important times for us this year. He was mis-matched on Petrie but was the only option we had for him. Keeffe might have been useful for the height with a 3rd man back to kill the 1 on 1 but unfortunately he's gone. Brown worked his way into it over the course of the game and I'm looking forward to seeing the replay to have a closer look at how he went

These weird attacks whenever we are struggling would make more sense if Brown was actually having a poor game. Petrie is a very talented player, he kicked 1 goal and 2 behinds when directly matched up on Brown, that's hardly a bath. For the first half the Roos were finding plenty of space and spotting up leads, this is tough for any defender to handle and the North key forwards did take a number of marks (Petrie ended with 9 as did Waite). When the supply issue was sorted in the second half our tall defenders all performed better. Sometimes the ball is coming in so easily that no defender will stop every entry.
The thing is that there has not been a single game where either Frost or Goldsack have defended better than Brown in a man on man situation. They are both very ordinary in this aspect whereas Brown is very good. It's why he's in the team and why he is our best key position stopper by some margin. And talk of Marsh replacing him when his one on one work is even weaker than Frost's is simply bizarre. _________________ Well done boys! |

Bagging Brown like this is pathetic, yes he had a tough first half , but also turned it around in the second half ,he is our only defender as stated with genuine key position stength. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".

This. Brown has been consistently good this year but our entire defense gets hammered when we gift the opposition defensive and midfield run and carry. Most defenses do, and half of ours haven't even played 50 games yet. |
