Magpies in strife

Quote: | THE Collingwood Football Club's feathers have been ruffled after plans for its new nest were rejected
Heritage Victoria has given the thumbs down to the Pies' plans to paint the roof black and white and install a Collingwood emblem on its new HQ at the Sports and Entertainment Centre at Olympic Park.
Heritage Victoria ruled the club's proposal was detrimental to the architectural significance of the building, which hosted the swimming at the 1956 Olympic Games.
The building is on the state's heritage register, so the Pies were forced to apply for a permit with Heritage Victoria before altering it.
After being knocked back, the club lodged an appeal but has since backed away and looks like abandoning its initial plans. |
Seriously, what is a bit of paint going to do? What's so important about a fifty year old building anyway, especially the roof? |

If we are going to be knocked back on any plans we put forward to have our colours or emblem shown, then what is the point of being there, who will ever know
At least everyone knew exactly where we were at Vic Park..........but hey, that's just my opinion and I'm just a little fish |

The front of it will probably have Collingwood related stuff, i.e. big signs, etc. However, they won't let us paint the roof. |

There's a big difference to advertising placed up with signs everywhere and actually making a change to a heritage building. Ed would have expected this. Anyone with any knowledge of things heritage listed would have known this wouldn't have been approved. I refuse to believe the club didn't do its homework on this one - just another media beat up. _________________ My oxygen is Collingwood. Without it I die.

There is nothing Heritage about the new Olympic Park other than the Greyhound track where the Dish lickers run around the back of it.
It is more likely their decision was based on to much in your face with the Black & White more than any other thing.
Next thing you will tell me that eyesore Federation Square should be heritage listed.
Oh that's right architects marvel at it, oh yeah the ones that are on LSD like it very much. |

it's ok to tear down the members pavillion at the MCG which was constructed in 1928 but if it is for the Pies we get shafted. _________________ 'young and free' |

Spot on matm. How rediculous is it? I mean, how many people actually get to see the roof? It is only viewable by air! |

"The building is on the state's heritage register, so the Pies were forced to apply for a permit with Heritage Victoria before altering it. "
That is the quote from the article. So is it f**ken heritage listed or not?? I'm a West Aussie with no knowledge of such things. My mistake was obviously trusting the journo who wrote this. If it is heritage listed I don't quite understand the last few posts...can someone please explain. _________________ My oxygen is Collingwood. Without it I die.

IMO West Richmond station is more historic than that eyesore. But if I wanna go and graffiti "JEN ROCKS" all over it, it is ok.
So all that simply has to be done is that when the building is finished you get that magpie emblem on that building and say it is 'an unfortunate act of vandalism' that has happened.
That whole entertainment centre precinct is a dump - they should be grateful for us to take over such a moronic structure.

The big deal is that its black and white (read Collingwood).... If anyone else wanted to paint the roof they would be given the OK..... but no not to us they dont..... _________________ ....Collingwood Forever....

Blanch, I don't quite understand what you mean. It is on the State's heritage register, controlled by 'Heritage Victoria' which is the statutory authority for heritage listed buildings (etc).
This means that if anyone wishes to alter the building, then they must apply to Heritage Victoria to do so.
The thing is, they have completely gutted that place, so what is the problem with painting the roof? |
