I have no issue with Eddie having a career outside football.
What I have an issue with is Eddie using the role of President to remain relevant amongst Melbourne's elite.

I actually can't understand the hate for Eddie right now. I'm really disappointed with a lot of the comments on here. Half of you will probably be the first ones to praise him when the club turns around with Eddie at the helm.
The club is financially stable and has come a long way under Eddie. Only issue is our current on field performance. Wanting to replace Eddie because of that is crazy talk.
It's not unreasonable that Buckley still had a job this season. I think most members were saying this season was do or die for Bucks. So why now all the hate for Eddie because Bucks is still coach. Seriously you guys make it sound like the world is about to end. Take a f%$#en chill pill, Bucks will be gone at the end of the season and world will continue to function and so will the club.
(Don't think I''m happy about our form I'm so deflated I almost didn't buy a membership in my 17th season. Just paid for it today...)

It's not good corporate governance to have someone sit in the chair as the MD for 18 years. Anyone who understands what makes successful organisations tick would realise this. |

It is not just about onfield performance.
This is Ed's 19th season as top dog.
Nearly all football sides are financially viable.
The rivers of gold from the media rights has flowed in a flood for years now and will for a few more years.
Ed has been given credit for this windfall.
Too many posters here feel that the club treats them as cash cows and not as part owners.
A prominent CEO from the corporate world was quoted this week about CEO's in sport in particular stopping too long.
Obviously Coates was the target.
She said it was inevitable that such longevity will end in heartache.
Cronyism and nepotism and a few other ism's always blow the good work away. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Eddie harps on about doing the position for free.
He doesn't though. He uses the brand of the biggest football club in the land to give exposure to his brand.
It gives him ratings on his Breakfast Show and it gives him a status in Melbourne that opens doors in a network sense. |

It is called "Inkind"
And it has made him a truck load of cash. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Eddie loves a crisis. It means he can increase ratings for his failing radio show. |

We should have done this 125 dinner at seasons end, not now, too much hype and not needed pressure, maybe it did affect our players a bit, would not have helped their concentration pre game, I reckon. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Thing is Kieran, if NOBODY puts their hand up too run against Eddie, not one soul at the AGM had the balls to challenge him, then we cant very well complain now can we. ?? How come Craig Kelly hasn't put his hand up, or any other of the myriad of astute businessmen who must be rabid Pies fans ?? How come a trade unionist has not run for the job, or an actor, a business woman, even a former comedian cum playwright. wink wink, If nobody runs against ed, of course he thinks hes indispensable, we all love him, its only natural, like bloody politicians. Think about it, if no one challenges him, has the guts too, we sure as hell cant complain if we get stuck with him ad infinitum. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.
