He took Fremantle to there first ever grand final.
Fremantle had a poor 2016 and looked headed more another after the first 2 rounds but they took a chance on the kids and have now won 5 of the last 6.
About the only criticism of Lyon over the years is that he's been reluctant to play the kids but he had his team in contention for many of those seasons and it's understandable he looked to maximise the potential of the present than look to far ahead. |
At the end of the day it is a it like all those Premiership Cups well fell one game short of winning. They simply do not count.
We have won 15 cups. End of story and to date Lyon has not won the ultimate prize and that's all that counts _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

Exactly. Ross the Boss is still a top 5 coach in the AFL. At least he's taken two teams to the pointy end of the season. Thanks for your gameplan to Ross, couldn't have done 2010 without it |

I remeber a few weeks ago dave, We were saying if we lose to Carlton and Essendon Bucks is gone...we have since added GWS on the siren ... and yet he is still in the chair. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

Hey I don't know why he is still there.

Lyon has impressed me massively this year. His courageous decision to play the youth has resulted in a massive turnaround for Fremantle's season. Suddenly they seem in contention for the 8, having started in nomansland. Also, I really like the way he accepts responsiblity for poor performances, and does not seek to pin it on his players...unlike another coach I know. |

To be fair on Buckley I don't think he has baulked from taking full responsibility for the failure of the team. He has shielded plenty of the blame away from the players. At the end of the day the club can send the coach overseas to study other sports organisations, they can send the coach to numerous management courses with an emphasis on sporting codes, or they can surround the coach with great assistant coaches. If the coach doesn't at some point learn from his mistakes and improve there's not much anyone can do but move to a new coach. |

In 2011 we were the best team in the comp. I know we blew the GF, but that season was magnificent.
We were still decent in 2012, but since then we've been extremely poor.
The Buckley appointment was a mess from the beginning. The club has made a massive mistake by their 5 year plan or what ever it was.
The best thing for Nathan Buckley would have been to take that job he was offered at North. He probably would have become a better coach getting away from Collingwood. We could have stuck with Malthouse and given him the send off he deserved. And who knows, we might have snuck into another Grand Final with our list? And he would have broken Jock McHales record in a Collingwood polo.
We could have always brought Bucks home depending on how things went at North. And even if we did, it would have been a cleaner start for him. Who knows what the list would look like now?
But thats all should-haves.
Right now, we're looking at a bottom 4 finish. Can we afford to go into 2018 without change? No.
I dont hate Nathan Buckley. I have his #5 jumper at home. I have some nice memorabilia of him at home too. I loved him as a child/teenager. I went to see him play countless times. I even went to see him play for Williamstown that time. And I'd love nothing more than to see him win a Premiership as the coach of this club.
But the pain of these week to week efforts has finally broken me. And it hurts.
I still think Bucks has a place in football. Wether that be at another club or in the media. I think he could still become a decent coach, but it's just not going to happen here. The pressure and expectation is just too high. We need to start again.
We should have been smarter back in 2010-11. Let's be smart now. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

If he had a shred of decency and respect for the Club he would resign tonight, there is no point continuing this farce any longer _________________ "The last thing he expected WAS THE FIRST THING HE GOT!!!!!"
