No. Preferred to have had him 10 years ago. Better value developing a young forward from the draft than making superannuation payments to a veteran. _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. Yes. 2 year deal.
His marketing potential alone would be massive.
I’m addition to that, and following our recent issues with racism, having arguably the greatest indigenous player of all time come to the club would be a huge step forward.
Plus on field he’s still getting the job done.
34 goals in 14 games.
Six more than McStay has ever kicked in an entire season.
He still gets the oppositions best key defender. McStay gets their 3rd tall defender.
Just because Franklin isn’t the level he once was, doesn’t mean he still isn’t in the best 5-6 key forwards in the game right now. In fact most people who watch more than just Collingwood games will agree he’s in the top handful of key fwds in the game.
Who’d take us closer to a flag next year? Franklin or McStay? Pretty easy answer really. |

Its not $700-$750 for 1
It would be $1.4-$1.5 for 2
He wont move for one year and unless we win a flag with him next year then he just gets in the way of development. Thats IF he stays injury free which hes struggled with of late and if he knows hes 2 and done I cant imagine he would worry too much about preparation.
Id rather offer Logan McDonald $2.4 - $2.6 for 3 years _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

No. I want our club to be a dynasty and win three or more in the near future, not just be a one flag wonder. |

Thinking about this more - it is his management leaking it to guilt the club in upping its offer. All the callers on talkback saying he should stay etc are doing his bidding! I have no doubt this is the way these matters work with player managers etc (How else would Robbo get the 'exclusive'?).
That being said, he is $1.01 to stay at Sydney. He will sign a deal for slightly more than they have already offered him - which will only been possible because this has been leaked and we are all talking about it.
It could potentially backfire - with fans thinking he's greedy - but in his own mind he's probably not going anywhere anyway so all that will die down in a month or two just like it does for every other player who is "exploring options" but don't actually leave. _________________ It's never as good/nor bad as it seems... |

Won't happen and shouldn't happen.
I'd view going after Buddy as an example of an 'availability heuristic', which is effectively a shortcut that relies on immediate examples or mental highlights of his career that come to our mind when evaluating his or any players worth.
These are judgment shortcuts that generally get us where we want to go – and quickly – but at the cost of occasionally sending us off course.
This causes mistakes in our thinking and leads us to make decisions that are flawed or not sufficiently thought out.
There's also what's termed the 'Peak-end-Rule'. The Peak-end-Rule refers to situations where the peak and end of a situation or event are the most important in our memories. When describing situations in the past tense, our minds shortcut to the peak and the end and fail to contemplate the other parts of the memory.
For example, a player or team you watch may be ordinary for 75% of the time, but the other 25% is excellent. You might then go away and tell people how excellent they were, forgetting that there were long boring periods. Take Hawthorn, they were bad for a looooong time, but the recent Premiership run was excellent and we therefore associate Hawthorn as a strong Club, even if they have missed finals for the past 3 years and will miss 2022.
With respect to Buddy, I might deduct that his best is past, with flashes of the old brilliance which we'd dearly love to see in September, that messes with my assessment of his value to our team.
Over the past 8 seasons and 150 games with Sydney, he's delivered some exceptional spectacles, but the last 3 years has seen 2 finals campaigns that haven't gone beyond an EF, he hasn't been the difference.
I just can't see 2023 Buddy version as a player we need. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

We would assume he would like to squeeze another year or two because he loves football that much.
Otherwise, forget only 1 or 2 million, lol. |

Not for the $700k the media is saying he would ask for to leave Sydney. He is 36 years old and way over the hill now. Yes, he plays the odd great game but for the most part he is just hanging on. He gets his goals because the Swans are very good at feeding him on the small SCG. If he played with us or a Victorian team playing on the wide MCG regularly he would struggle bigtime, he has no speed and would no way have the same level of fitness as he once did.
I'd pay him $400k for 1 season if he wanted to play for us otherwise NO!
He'll do a deal with Sydney, this is all PR crap to try to boost his perceived worth.
Also, I really seriously hope we are not going to offer McStay $650k per season, the guy hasn't done anything to warrant that. _________________ RED "BABY" CAVANAUGH: Didn't hear what the bet was.
