Cox simply needs to earn his way. He has been plateauing for two years and don't forget he was dropped and then subbed against the Lions at Marvel late last season which seemed to trigger an anger then good response. Maybe Fly can elicit something again but spots are tight this season for passengers. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

I don't think he was in anyone's best 23 to begin with. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

I think Noble, McStay, Schultz, Richards, Harrison, Kruger would be added to to the mix to come in to a side which, atm, has only definitely lost Ginnavin and Murphy |

I think that's about right, though I'd lean towards adding Dean and Sullivan to the group above as they just keep standing up in pressure games.
Of last year's premiership players who are still on the list, most at risk are arguably Markov and Mitchell, along with Cox depending on where one stands in that debate. (I'm starting to think Frampton's spot is secure no matter who's available.) So that's still at least a few more ins than outs – definitely makes things interesting if we get to the stage where we have a full squad to choose from. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Good point! Mason Cox's contribution to the premiership win last year should never be understated in his ability to beat Oscar McInerney in the last quarter centre bounce contests and his chop out for ruck support during the whole finals series in 2023 where he helped overcome Melbourne's Max Gawn in our first final of 2023. Cox at his best is a terrific weapon for Collingwood and without him giving Cameron a chop out in the ruck we struggle to maintain parity in the center bounce clearance battles as has been the case in the last couple of weeks when Frampton and Kreuger have had to try to play that 2nd ruck role. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Imo Cox has been rather poor this season.
On his day he can be great, but those days are now few and far between. That's before his recent serious injuries.
I'd love to have the big fella in our next GF team, playing at his best, but I'm doubtful that can be relied upon. Ultimately, Fly and the coaches will make the right call, one way or another. |

Cox has been poor but geez, in a final he’s bloody hard to match up on and doesn’t need to play 4 quarters to have an impact. I assume his form will improve and he’s injury free, on the condition of which I would pick him. _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. With the hopeful inclusion of McStay, alongside Krueger, I don't believe there's room for Cox in our best 23. On his day Cox is very good, but in truth, there are far too many games, where he is almost a liability. Assuming a full list, with no more injuries, which is unlikely I know, my wish list for our September push would look something like this.
B: Maynard Frampton. Howe
HB: Quaynor. Moore. Noble
C: WHE Pendles J. Daicos
FOLL: Cameron, JDG, N. Daicos
HF: McCreery. Checkers Lipinski
F: Hill McStay. Elliott
IC: Crisp, Krueger, Harrison, Sidey, Mitchell (sub)
EM: Dean, Richards, Schultz |
It’s a best available 23 but as MM always said your best 23 is who’s playing on the day.
My changes to Rude’s OP:
In: Schultz, Cox
Out: Mitchell, Krueger.
I doubt we’ll see Billy Elliot back, so for me it’d be Joe Richards for Billy. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

The most difficult decision Fly will need to make imo, is whether to go into a finals campaign with Noble or Markov. There doesn't seem to be a spot for them both, given the form of other players in our defensive line-up. Noble worked his butt off over the pre-season to prove his worth to Fly, and for the most part, he has had a good season. He should be commended for responding to his dropping from our 2023 finals campaign, in such a determined and positive manner. However, his form seems to have dropped off a little, just at the time that other players, Markov among them, are returning from injury. |
