Post subject: Should Nathan Buckley coach us from next year? | |
|
Assuming that Nathan Buckley retires at the end of the year, should he coach Collingwood from next year?
Hear me out:- I have it on good authority if Buckley retires then Essendon are very keen to make him their head coach next year. That is how highly he is thought of in the AFL. Once he goes to another club, he is no certainty to ever come back to Collingwood at all in any sense as a Collingwood coach. i say, the time is right to make the move now.
Sheedy never went back to Richmond. Harvey is at Fremantle and wont be back at essendson. Bomber Thompson is at Gellong and will not be back at Essendon. Leigh Matthews, Hawthorn's greatest son never found a way back to his home club.
If we don't strike while the iron is hot with our Bucks, we may lose him forever and I would hate to see that. I would hate to see him as essendon caoch or even assistant coach.
MM has had his time. More than enough time and he still has Lucuria and Burns running ariund in the cewntre as our best option. MM has had enough chances to get explosinve midfield types or those good at the clearances and for whatever reason he hasn't got them. MM comments about card board cut out ruckman have come back to haunt him because that is exactly what Josh Fraser is. the one game plan and lack of Tempo football was also exposed tonight.
Anyway this is not a negative session about MM, this is to make sure our most beloved son stays with us and doesn't move off to another club, for good, for ever!
Bucks is a lot smarter than Tony Shaw so I don't think there will be the same problems there.
I just think the time is right to change coaches and make sure we retain our favourite son, Nathan Buckley before we lose him in the coaching merry go round!

At best , Buckley could be an assistant coach and tactical advisor to MM. |

No. Too close to the players and if we are to have a new coach, fresh eyes from outside would be a better bet - or better still Dean Laidley.... _________________ "Only the weak believe that what they do in battle is who they are as men" - Thomas Marshall - "Ironclad". |

Well if he doesn't coach next year, we may well lose him forever.
if he is a good coach, then the team that takes him on will never let him go because he is the full package off the field.
I think some of you blokes think that Buckley will just come home when we ask. But that is not the way it works.
If he gets a job outside Collingwood, he could be gone for life.
essendon are very very keen.
Think about it! |

Essendon keen on Buckley? What are you smoking? They are looking for a proven coach not someone who has not been tried or even done time as an assistant. At the moment the favourite for the Essendon job is Paul Hamilton who coached Glenorchy to a TSFL flag, coached WWT in the SANFL and has been assistant coach.
Buckley is more likely to retire at the end of next year if he was to retire soon, and by then Essendon would have already signed their coach. If Buckley was to coach I would think he'd be an assistant and do it that way and get a feel for the job.
Throwing him to the wolves as a coach will be stupid. _________________ Ðavâgé

One rather large gaping hole in your argument there Clement old boy - Nathan isn't interested in a senior coaching role next year - so doesn't really matter what you or we think and Essendon or any other team want does it? _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.†|

Yeah, yeah whatever Clement.
Mark Harvey, Neale Daniher, Mark Thompson = Essendon? Kevin Sheedy = Richmond? Mark Williams = Port Adelaide? Brett Ratton = Carlton? |
