On Nelson and the whole "Sorry" thing, I think this is an excellent article by Laurie Oakes in today's paper. Puts a lot of things into perspective. Well worth a read, although I'm sure plenty who disagree with the conculsions will just call it more right wing crap.
|
When I get a chance I will put up an article from the Shepp News yesterday. Not linkable as they require membership of their website.
But it will show Nelson to be manipulating a story of a stolen life for his own ends.
This will not be an opinion from a political analyst or my own biased opinion. This will be facts straight from the stolen persons life. This will show what a scumbag the Leader Of The Opposition is. |
Look forward to reading it. FWIW, I don't recall trying to argue that Nelson was a saint, he's a politician. I found the article interesting as it puts Nelson's speech into perspective and also shows Rudd to be an opportunist politician as well, not a saint. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Gee, I wonder what your opinion of the word "communist" thrown at Labour Party supporters all those years would be?
Suppose it's OK for one side, but not for the other. |
I wouldn't think "communist" has the same stigma that "racist" does.
Even when people were being told to beware the red menace, there was a communist party. Seems like me that too many people use "racist" as a cheap way to win a conversation. |
Its funny that member mentions "communist" because its fast becoming the "new communist." As you say, its a cheap way to try and win an argument...exactly like calling someone a communist used to be back in the day.
"what!? equal access to education?...sounds like your a bit of a bloody communist!"

The communists are not under the bed, they're in the Bloody bed.
2 things i agree with in Socialism is Free quality Education for all at the low to University levels. Also access to free quality medical attention.
Capitalism can have the rest, but grubby capitalistic hands should leave these two things alone. Every person should have equal access to both services. _________________ All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

LOL, so easy to re-write with the term racist. But if I do, I'll be called one. ![Razz](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Not trying to "win an argument"
The argument was won by Brendon Nelson himself.
My belief is that the Liberal Party, at their very core, are a racist party. Throughout the 50's and 60's they actively pursued a White Australia Policy.
The "Bringing Then Home" report was handed to Howard in his first 12 months of office. It recommended the "sorry" action. Howard, and by default the Liberal Party, refused to act on this recommendation.
There are many more indicators to the Liberal Party's racism.
I'm more than comfortable to continue to call the Liberal Party, and their followers, racist. Until I can be shown proof otherwise. |

That comment wasn't aimed at you at all. In fact you usually provide some of the more reasoned arguments. I only mentioned you because you're mentioning the Communist accusations towards the labor party reminded me just how over-used that accusation had become in the 50's and during the cold war. Joseph McCarthy being one of the worst offenders. |

I wasn't specifically having a go at you for overusing the word "racist", which was why I made the original comment exprssing disapointment. I'm not actually having a go at any individual, just making an observation.
If you believe that the Libs and Nelson are racist, then that's your call. I'm not going to get bent out of shape trying to change your mind because it doesn't mean that much to me.
BTW, Wave to the train as it leaves Shep for Melbourne will you? My daughter's on it. ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The trouble is, their decisions in regard to that and other policies, are far too complicated to simply be slapped with the explanation of 'racism'. That's rather naive, actually, imho. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Then paint me naive David.
Sometimes you don't need to look for the "complicated" part of policy. Just boil it down to the bleeding obvious. |
