The 2021 Great Big Consolidated Trade & Draft thread

Sadly Collingwood have very little of trade value. What we do have trade wise needs to be used for players already identified (Diacos and Dibb).
Collingwood desperately need the points to get young Diacos and really avoid going too far into point deficit for 2022...this is major as it could be a massive set back if we have a poor finishing again next year and our pick is pushed back again by a points hangover from Diacos.

Simpson is one of the best coaches in the business. If he can't get anything out of Brander I don't see how we can. If Brander was any good as a forward they would be lining him up to replace Kennedy when Kennedy retires.piedys wrote: Too bad all the half backs Hine drafted [Scharenberg/Freeman] spent most of their careers in the medical rooms than on the field.
We could have got Kelly for nothing.
Stewart certainly took some time to mature, but at least we would have had the luxury to develop him in VFL, before making a call.
And Craig went ballistic at the club over this, and rightly so.
Selecting Stewart would have cost us either Kennedy or Broomhead; win/win.
Picken was another mistake for sure, but if he would have commanded a spot in the teams of 2010/2011 when we peaked, is debateable.
I think his best form arrived for Welfare well after our window had closed, with the departure of Malthouse.
I'm not a Madgen basher, but I'd feel more confident having Stewart or Kelly match up on those bigger bodied forwards, down back.
We may or may not retrieve Kelly at F/A trade period; if we do, it is just another example of Hine fixing his shit, and costing us more than we should have initially parted with in the process.

My fear is that with a player like Brander, can he be the key #1 forward that we need? I'd almost prefer to persist with Darcy Cameron, rotating him with Grundy and leaving Mihocek to be the 2nd forward.
Having another option would be nice of course, so long as it's a bloke who smashes packs and can take contested 1v1 grabs.
No point paying overs for a decoy forward if a genuine #1 might be available in the next couple of years (ala King).
Thing is Brander does not have to be the key forward. We need probably another two forwards. So he can play the second forward role.

If I had a gun pointed at my head and someone said "trade 2 young fellas"
I would look at IQ and Callum Brown.
I would only trade IQ if he would be worth a first rounder....does anyone here think he is worth that?
CB would be worth something around pick 20-30 ?
Please dont take this seriously as I would prefer if they stayed and became great players for us but if I had to pick someone that could be worth something, it would be these two, hypothetically speaking of course.
I would get in 2 x midfielders and no talls, but thats just me.

Surprised Marbir Chol hasn’t been mentioned in any conversations on Nicks.
Super talent but supposedly a bit lazy on the track. Restricted free agent.
He would be the first one I would be speaking to.

Youre probably right but wow what an indictment on our development staff if thats the case. He did show signs of coming good in the last few weeks so he would be worth another season to see where he is at.inxs88 wrote:Callum Brown wouldn't get a pick sub 60 unfortunatelymagpieazza wrote:If I had a gun pointed at my head and someone said "trade 2 young fellas"

I love this. Here is my annual attempt at being a recruiter but let me drop Graeme Wright's name in the post for credibility. At least that is an acknowledgement that credibility needed, which is a good start.
We need not one player over the age of 23! Except for minimum salary free agents to stuff the list and provide some bigger bodies while the kids are developing.
As it is Moore, DeGoey, Maynard, Grundey, Elliot and Adams are going to be approaching and/or past 30 by the time we are ready to sin a flag.
its time that youth is SERVED! Speaking of youth being served, shout out to the Lions!!

All we’ve got is second forwards. Mason Cox is a second forward. Mihocek is a second forward. How about we recruit a first forward? Wouldn’t that be a novelty.derkd wrote:MC's Mix wrote:Oscar Allen has gone ahead of him as the Kennedy replacement though.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote: You've got the same problem with Jake Kelly as you've got with Madgen. Mate ya cant re-draft for what you know now. The kids we picked up were very highly rated and it was injury not form that stopped Scharenberg and Freeman from playing high level. And only Schaz was a half back but he was tipped to move into the mids. Freeman was never a defender.piedys wrote:Too bad all the half backs Hine drafted [Scharenberg/Freeman] spent most of their careers in the medical rooms than on the field.MJ23 wrote:Umm, Jake was rookied at the crows and took some time to come on - at a time when we had half backs coming out of our ears and Stewart did nothing at GWS and hardly set the world on fire at Essendon.piedys wrote: Namely Jake Kelly at Cows, and Stewart at Doperland.
More of Hine's ineptitude laid bare for the football world to see.
If you wanted an example of getting it wrong Id suggest Picken

Kelly has been good for the Crows and would have been worth the risk in the rookie draft. (I believe we re-drafted Gault that year?). Kelly might find himself at Collingwood after this years free agency period ends. I think he is a much better version of Madgen.
Picken didnt nominate father-son selection? I think he played for Willy before the Dogs took him as a 22 year old? I dont know the full story here, but it would have been sensational to see him win a flag with the Pies.

Our backs at the time were Langdon, Young, Marsh, Williams, Sinclair, Ramsay, Toovey, Maynard, Seedsman, Oxley and thats not including Goldsack, Brown, Moore, Keefe and Frost.
As I said - a shit load of half backs.
Jake was rookied and hardly a known quantity.
He has done well and Id have him right now if he wanted to come.
Im not sure Stewart would get a game with us now, even with Moore out.
