No one can really say right now, so lets eliminate a few likely suspects/ motivation.Jezza wrote:That tells me nothing.Pies4shaw wrote:He wanted to kill people with his guns.Jezza wrote:Anyone have any idea what the shooter's motive was?
ISIS = Unlikely, they got too many other problems.
Far right nationalist = Unlikely, media would have been all over it, eagerly.
Lone nutter = possible; but he went to a lot of effort over a considerable amount time.
A few clues?
target choice.... country music festival.

If a top lawyer openly thinks like that.....what conclusion can one draw?

People don't need any real "motive" for these atrocities. They just need guns, ammunition, a bit of anger and a degree of alienation. Looking for a "motive" is apt to deflect from the real point - whatever was happening in this tool's brain, it couldn't have translated into this carnage without the weaponry.Pi wrote:No one can really say right now, so lets eliminate a few likely suspects/ motivation.Jezza wrote:That tells me nothing.Pies4shaw wrote: He wanted to kill people with his guns.

On the other hand, this bloke didn't fire a single bullet.... so, a nut job doesn't need a gun.
The 2017 Manchester Arena bombing was an Islamist-extremism-inspired terror attack in Manchester, United Kingdom. On 22 May 2017 a shrapnel-laden homemade bomb was detonated as people were leaving Manchester Arena following a concert by the American singer Ariana Grande. Twenty-three people were killed, including the attacker, and 250 were injured.

A couple of points
Firstly, fully automatic weapons are regulated in the US. Semi auto's aren't. The difference is a semi auto is self loading but you need to pull the trigger for each shot. Apparently at least 1 of the weapons the Police found had been modified, probably by a gun smith (which is illegal). You can also purchase (as David pointed out earlier) devices that can attach to a semi auto to make them rapid fire. It effects accuracy but if you're strafing 20,000 people from 400m away, accuracy isn't a big deal. Without some modifications you'd need Parkinsons and a hair trigger to get that rapid fire rate out of a semi auto
In response to LuvDids,
Finally, in relation to gun control, here's some charts that explain the attitudes to gun control in the USA.
http://us.cnn.com/2017/10/02/politics/g ... index.html
Interesting, the divide is not just political but between people who own guns and people who don't.
The other interesting point is that in the last 14 years, the number of gun owners who own a gun for protection has increased by 22% and the number who own them for hunting has decreased by 17%. There's probably still just as many people hunting but the number who buy for protection has jumped massively.
In Texas, which is an open carry state, there are signs on entrances to sports stadiums and bars saying no guns allowed in here.

In response to LuvDids,
When I handed my guns into the Police near 10 yerars ago, there was more than 20. I also sold another 15 to a gun dealer when my Dad died. it's not that hard., or at least it wasn't. A tad more difficult now in Aus to accumulate an arselnal legally.luvdids wrote:How the hell do you get into a hotel with 19 guns??
Strike that, how do you end up with 19 guns, all apparently bought legally?!!
